The EPD consists structurally of three departments (shops): mechanical assembly department, optical department and department for circuit assembly. The total number of the personnel working in the EPD is 23 persons. The mechanical assembly department (V.G.Golubeva) has equipment for manufacturing machine components, lathes, milling, cutting, grinding and drilling machines for metal mechanical treatment (about 20 units), equipment for electrical gas-welding, a section for carrying out metal assembling works and an instrumental section. As a rule adjustment and starting of complicated devices are carried out in the laboratories by the scientific workers of these laboratories. The total number of the mechanical department personnel is 11 persons. |
The Experimental Production Division (EPD) of the Institute (G.N.Zinchenko) is among the main units because of its important role in supplying experiments carried out in the research laboratories with necessary optical-mechanical and electronic equipment, devices, systems and installations. The approximate list of the items produced by the EPD includes different spectral research and analytical instruments, lasers and their elements, vacuum tracts, adjustment mechanisms, vacuum and cryogenic arrangements, electronic modules, registration systems, optical details and units, etc.

The optical department (R.P.Surgutskov) also includes a section for manufacturing and pre-fabricating details (materials - glass, quartz, crystals, semiconductors), a section for polishing optical details, a section for vacuum mirror coating, a measuring section for examining quality of produced optical details and a glass-blowing section. Five persons are working in the department.
The department for circuit assembly and regulation of radioelectronic apparatus consists of 5 qualified radiotechnicians and works in close contact with radioelectronic engineers from the Laboratory of Laser Spectral Instrumentation.
Making wide use of cooperative links with other institutes for executing galvanic and varnish-paint coatings, for carrying out radio-assembling works, for vacuum dielectrical coatings and electropolishing (Spectral Design Office of the Lebedev's Physical Institute, Center for Physical Instrumentation of the Inst. of General Phys., Rus. Acad. Sc.), for production of electronic cards (Inst. Nucl. Research of Rus. Acad. Sc.) and for other works the EPD of the Institute in cooperation with the research laboratories can produce quite modern automated experimental installations and experimental instruments not only for the needs of the laboratories but also to orders of other organizations.

Engineering Services (Chief Engineer - E.I.Yulkin, total stuff 16 persons) provide the Institute for uninterrupted supply with electrical energy, water and heat, for telephone connection and for maintenance of engineering communications and of sanitary technical equipment. The Institute consumes annually about one million kW x h electrical energy.
Within the Chief Engineer's department there is a cryogenic section which provides the laboratories with purchased liquid nitrogen and liquid helium. The laboratories annual consumption of liquid nitrogen is about 25 t, of liquid helium - 250 kg.
The garage of the Institute (R.P.Surgutskov) counts 7 units including 2 motor cars and 2 lorries, bus, a tractor, a fork-lift truck. The number of drivers and automobile mechanicians working in the garage is 4 persons.
Current repair of laboratory rooms, buildings, replanning of premises, construction of small buildings and other construction activities are carried out by a repair-construction group consisting of 3 qualified workers.
There is a special group of repairing, checking and hire of measuring devices and computer engineering techniques (head – V.G.Filippov, 3 persons) and small department of material-technique supply (head – R.P.Surgutskov, 3 persons).
Group of Protection of Labour and Ecology Safety (N.P.Vinogradov) and Group of Extreme Cases Warning and Fire-Prevention Safety (N.G.Perets) work in close connection with laboratories, EPD and engineering and auxiliary services.
Since 1992 internal economy regulation was put into operation in the Institute. It means that Heads of Departments and independent Laboratories assumed responsibility both for search finance additional to the budget for example grants, contracts, agreements, and their rational use. Only 20 percents of the finance are deducted for common Institute needs. This economy regulation increased the load of the Financial Department, but gave an initiative to Departments and Laboratories. Indeed due to this means the Institute could work successfully even at the periods of sharp diminution or irregular entry of budget financing. |
Financial Department (Head - M.N.Terekhina, 6 persons) executes functions of accountancy and is in control financial and material flows. Almost all bookkeeper's calculations are made on computers. 
Personnel Department (L.S.Vasil'eva - Head, 2 persons) executes admissing and dismissing of personnel and presents for management necessary information and analytical reports concerning personnel questions.
Deputy Director E.I.Yulkin executes the general management both of engineering and auxiliary services of the Institute.
Heads of engineering and auxiliary services are invited to Director's meeting one time per week for deliberation of current and production questions.
